You might be asking yourself… “Why do I need yet another social network?” The answer is quite simple: Google+ is NOT about connecting with people you already know like many of the other social networks. It is about connecting with people that share similar interests with you; as a musician or band, that is MUSIC!
Did you know that Google+ is the fastest growing social network in the history of social networking? Google launched Google+ on June 28, 2011, with a private beta that quickly amassed more than 40 million users. How does Google Plus’ growth compare to some of the major players? Twitter arrived at 10 million users in 780 days (2.13 years), Facebook arrived at 10 million users in 852 days (2.33 years) whereas Google Plus gained 10 million users in just 16 days (2 weeks). (Source: http://goo.gl/Hf0Bj) If growth continues at its current rate, Google Plus is expected to hit 300 million users by the end of 2012. Facebook was created to connect us with college friends, and Twitter was created as a way to let friends know what we were up to (via SMS at the very beginning). Google took the best of both, Facebook & Twitter, and came up with Google Plus as a best of BOTH worlds scenario. Just keep in mind the G+ platform was designed for users to connect with people that share our same interests, not necessarily to connect us with people we know in the real world.
The goal of this Guide is to get musicians/bands started on Google Plus, as well as networking with each other via “SHARED” Google+ circles.
